zero flats

Lily and I finished the PA-NC tour last evening. On our way into Marion, after a 75-mile push, we celebrated with a little cinematic indulgence. We caught Star Trek at the local theater and enjoyed the luxurious air conditioning. Afterwards, in the late evening twilight, we boarded our wondrous starships one last time for the two-mile trek through town. I find it remarkable to report that the USS Enterprise (1987 Raleigh Kodiak) suffered zero flats on our interstate travels.

We logged 762 miles on our trip from Philly in a leisurely 16 days. Two of these days were “zeroes” spent in the company of friends. Although we averaged slightly less daily mileage than my BMT fastpack, I did manage to drink more beer on this outing. The most noteworthy frothiness was none other than some of Neal’s homebrew in Roanoke. All in all, our southbound journey to and along the Skyline and Parkway was a cyclist’s dream.

I do hope to keep the positive two-wheeled momentum going. I feel more comfortable in the saddle. I want to thank Neal, Suzanne, Evan, Frindy, Jim, and all the others we met along the way who made us feel welcome across this wonderful landscape. Photos can be found here. And as usual, Lily has done a much more brilliant job journaling on her blog

“Whadder ya gonna do when the well runs dry, the well runs dry?
We’ll drill baby drill when the well runs dry, when the well runs dry!
But whadder ya gonna do when that well runs dry, that well runs dry?
Hell baby drill, baby drill when that well runs dry, when that well runs dry…”
