bandoleer gear

“…Throw a loaf of bread and a pound of tea in an old sack and jump over the back fence." –John Muir

Lately I've spent more time thinking about what to throw into my old sack than Muir, but it’s still in the spirit of adventure (and quest to get a 5 lbs. kit dialed). Here now are a dozen odds and ends that get stuffed into random plastic tubes and velcroed conveniently to my shoulder straps, weighing in at 3.9 oz. and referred to as my bandoleer gear:

 • Dropper of soap
 • Dropper of bleach (water treatment)
• Knife/multi-tool (trimmed mini Swiss Army)
• Headlamp (LED key-chain light w/velcro)
• Dental floss
• Toothbrush and toothpaste
• Ear plugs
• Sewing needles (2), safety pins (2)
• Patch kit tape (for sleeping pad)
• Emergency antihistamine
• Lighter
• Replacement coin-cell batteries for light

Thanks for documenting this! This is a very novel and original system that definitely sets your gear kit apart.

Nice! Where did you get those tiny tubes of toothpaste from?

Chad the 10g tubes of Colgate came complimentary from a hotel in Taiwan (when we were over there a year ago visiting family). I have not seen them here in the states. Fortunately we got two of them while we were there. I wish we got more, but a little toothpaste can go a long way.
